Shillong, Nov 22: The Meghalaya Women’s Football team is all geared up to travel to Kerala to take part in the 2021-22 Hero 26th senior women’s national football championship. The team will leave for Kerala on November 24.
Meghalaya is in group A and will face Manipur , Daman & Diu , Pondicherry. Their first match will be against a strong Manipur side on November 28. The tournament kick starts from November 25 to December 9 scheduled at three venues – Kasargod, Kannur and Kozhikode.
Ibashisha Khongwet, the attacking midfielder and striker of the team, on interacting via a telephonic interview with Hub News said, “First of all I would like to thank the Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) and its members in giving us this opportunity to represent the State… Every footballer’s dream is to represent the State in National level, I will therefore wear my State jersey with pride and hopefully bring home the trophy”. Khongwet also appreciated the Coaches efforts in giving 100% of their technical knowledge and good insight of the game during the training session.
Baiarkynti Mylliemngap the Defender said, “Speaking on behalf of my Teammates, we would love to participating there no matter if we win or lose… that’s all part of the beautiful game. But yes our mentality is strong! I’ve told them we’ll go play, enjoy and win.” “Participating in such a big tournament will help us gain experience and improve ourselves in order to develop more in our passion for football.”
Sharmila Kharbani (Coach) expressed concerns over the team as they only had few weeks of practice, “We had little to no time for practice sessions…the concerned department should make us aware of the tournament one month prior as we can give more in practice and tactical sessions to our girls”. Kharbani, however, lauded the players talent and dedications and confidently felt the team will have a great impact on the tournament.
