Merhülietsa Colony gets iconic gateway as symbol of unity

Kohima, July 3: A new chapter in community development unfolded in Kohima’s Merhülietsa Colony on Friday with the inauguration of its newly constructed colony gate under the Iconic Project 2025–26, a project residents hope will stand as a lasting symbol of identity, security and collective pride.

The programme, held in Ward No. 18, was chaired by Merhülietsa Colony Youth Working President Vizolie Viluo, while Rev. Vizolie Zhale, Pastor of CRC Merhülietsa, invoked God’s blessings for the occasion.

The gate was formally inaugurated by T. Khel Council Chairman K. Neibou Sekhose, who attended the programme as the Special Guest.

Addressing the gathering, Kohima Town MLA Dr. ATO congratulated the residents for successfully completing the project and described the new gateway as a reflection of the colony’s shared aspirations and community spirit.

“A colony gate is not merely a structure but a symbol of unity, pride and collective responsibility,” he said, adding that the project was a significant step towards strengthening the colony’s identity and dignity. He urged residents to continue participating actively in future development initiatives.

Special Guest K. Neibou Sekhose also lauded the collective efforts of the residents in turning the project into reality and thanked the MLA for supporting the initiative.

Vice Chairman of Merhülietsa Council Dilo Koza proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to everyone whose support and cooperation contributed to the successful completion of the project.

The inauguration marks another milestone for Merhülietsa Colony under the Iconic Project 2025–26, with the new gateway standing not only as an entrance to the locality but also as a lasting testament to community-led development, shared responsibility and the collective vision of its residents.
