Aizawl, Jan 20: During the NEC plenary, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma discussed with Union Home Minister Amit Shah the influx of Myanmar soldiers seeking refuge in the state. The central government has urged expedited repatriation of Myanmar army personnel.

Lalduhoma revealed that approximately 450 Myanmar soldiers have already been returned to their country with the assistance of the Indian government.

Speaking to mediapersons, Lalduhoma said, “People from Myanmar are fleeing and taking shelter in our country, and as a humanitarian ground, we are giving them shelter. There is a fluctuating population today; they are coming and returning to their country. The soldiers of Myanmar are coming and seeking shelter, and we used to send them by air with the assistance of the government of India. So far, we have sent around 450 soldiers.”

Over 600 Myanmar army personnel have crossed the border since November 2023 following fierce fights with pro-democracy ethnic rebel groups.
