Mokokchung, June 29: Nagaland MLA and Leader of the NPP Legislature Party, Nuklutoshi Longkumer inaugurated two newly constructed roads at Akhoya village in Mokokchung district, saying improved connectivity is key to economic growth and education.
The two roads — L. Pangersowa Road and the Longchara Junction to R.C. Chiten Jamir Memorial GHS Road — have been constructed under the SASCI 2025-26 programme. They were inaugurated on June 27.
The projects were dedicated with a prayer by ABC pastor Rev. T. Lanu before a public function at the R.C. Chiten Jamir Memorial Government High School Assembly Hall.
Addressing the gathering, Longkumer thanked Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio and Urban Development Minister Zhaleo Rio for facilitating the projects. He also appreciated advocate Akum Jamir for ensuring quality work and timely completion and thanked landowners for their cooperation during construction.
The MLA said meaningful development can only be achieved when communities, landowners and implementing agencies work together.
Highlighting the importance of the L. Pangersowa Road, Longkumer said it would improve market access for farming clusters by reducing travel time to Changtongya town, enabling farmers to transport vegetables, pineapples and oranges more efficiently to Mokokchung and other markets.
On the Longchara Junction-R.C. Chiten Jamir Memorial GHS Road, he said all-weather connectivity was crucial for students from neighbouring villages.
“Education and connectivity must go together. This road is dedicated to the memory of Late R.C. Chiten Jamir and to the future of our children,” he said.
Short speeches were also delivered by SDO (C) and Executive Officer of Changtongya Town Council, Sangpanchang Longkumer, Akhoya Village Council chairman Tiatemjen, senior citizen O. Shilu Jamir and the headmaster of R.C. Chiten Jamir Memorial GHS.
Officials of the PWD (Roads and Buildings) Mokokchung Division said both roads were completed with blacktopping and side drains under the state plan.
The programme was chaired by Samuel Jamir, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Akhoya Senso Mungdang president Imsuakum Jamir.
