MSL 5: Comeback wins for Umdang Pyllun, Amlarem; Mawphu and Lumphyrnai dominate

Shillong, Apr 26: Comeback victories and clinical finishes defined Saturday’s fixtures in the 5th Meghalaya State League (MSL 5), with several teams registering crucial wins across groups as the competition nears its halfway stage.

In Group H at Mawkyrwat, Seng Samla Umdang Pyllun edged Mawten SC 4-3 in a closely fought encounter. Mawten twice took the lead through Wellberjune Lyngdoh (16’) and Kynshewbor Pyngrope (54’), while Oversharp Iawphniaw (85’) added a late goal. However, Umdang Pyllun responded each time through Bishalboklang Rongrin (29’, 71’) and Rangkynsaistar Mawsor (56’, 67’), the latter maintaining his scoring run in all three matches so far.

A similar pattern unfolded in Group C, where Amlarem SC recovered from early setbacks to defeat Lamin XI SCC 4-2. Sanu Sumer (5’) and Genial Lamin (46’) had given Lamin XI the advantage, but Amlarem responded strongly with goals from Wantiwjune Buam (32’, 77’), Martial Nongrum (65’) and Iaid Da Kyrmen Jungai (65’) to turn the match around.

Elsewhere, Mawphu SC and Lumphyrnai Sohphoh FC registered identical 4-0 victories. Mawphu SC romped to a 4-0 win against Mulang SC Nongbah in Group B at Shillong’s MFA Ground, where Owenderson Nongrud (2′) scored the new fastest goal of MSL 5 and his team mates Steven Kynta (42′), Ferenstar Kharkongor (45′) and Archeststar Malngiang (73′) added one each further along in the game.

Wahiajer saw the same scoreline, with Lumphyrnai Sohphoh FC taking down Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC 4-0 in Group E. Rio Marboh (9′, 70′, 90’+5) became the latest player to score a hat-trick, with Deibanskhem Kharsati (32′) producing the other goal of the day.

In tighter contests, Thangskai Tiger SC edged Jalaphet Moochut Pyrdung 1-0 in Group D, with Michael Siangshai (26′) scoring two minutes after going into the referee’s book for a yellow card offence. Khliehriat has seen some of the closest matches so far, with just 10 goals scored in six games.

In Mairang, Mishon SSCC bounced back after two defeats to beat Lawbah SC 2-0 with late goals from Pyndapboklang L Lyngkhoi (74′) and Rikyrshan Warjri (86′).

With six of the eight groups now reaching the halfway mark, the league is set to enter its second phase from Monday, while fixtures in Wahiajer and Williamnagar continue their first-leg schedule.

Group E (Wahiajer) – Shillong Lajong FC vs Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC

Group F (Mairang) – Lawbah SC vs Mishon SSCC

Group G (Williamnagar) – Janepih YSCA vs Balmanduri FC

Group H (Mawkyrwat) – Mawlarshong SC vs Rangdajied United FC.
