Baghmara, Feb 10: As part of the Multi-State Mock Exercise organised by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department and the Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority (MSDMA), in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), a large-scale disaster preparedness drill was conducted on Monday at multiple locations in Baghmara.
The exercise was carried out at Bolsal A.ding near the petrol pump area, Baghmara Civil Hospital, and the premises of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Office. Once the siren was sounded, the Incident Response System was activated and the Emergency Operation Centre made functional to coordinate search and rescue operations, first aid, and evacuation measures. Planning sections, base camps, relief camps, medical aid posts and a helipad were also set up at pre-designated locations.
The mock drill witnessed active participation and coordination among the Incident Response Teams and various stakeholders, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Civil Defence volunteers, Police, line departments, Nokia representatives, Self Help Groups (SHGs), CVOs and the GSU.
