Jowai, Sept 17: In order to strengthen the fight against drugs and substance abuse, the Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign or “Awareness On Drugs Free India” was on Friday organised at the District Library Auditorium, Jowai by the District Administration and the District Social Welfare Officer, Jowai.It was attended by NGOs fighting for the cause which includes Manbha Foundation Jowai, Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment, Industrial & Institutional Ministry K.J.P Synod Mihngi Jowai, SANKER, and others.
EAC WJH, M.A Challam stated that the objective of the Campaign is to fight the menace of drugs and substance abuse and that through this Nasha Mukt Campaign the Government has involved stakeholders like the NGOs, police department, and others who are fighting for the same cause.He also informed that West Jaintia Hills is amongst the 272 Districts of the Country to be affected by this issue but the awareness amongst the general public regarding the same is very less.
Others whose spoke during the programme were Dakapaia Bareh, Field Coordinator, SURE who spoke on the topic “Basic of drugs, cause of drugs abuse and addiction”; Dr.J.N. Shullai, Project Director, MCSWA on the topic “ill effect of drugs abuse of family and individual healthy”.
