National Lok Adalat in Meghalaya settles 183 cases worth over Rs 1.34 crore

SHILLONG, MAY 9: The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority on Saturday organised the National Lok Adalat in the Meghalaya High Court and all districts of the state, settling 183 cases for a total amount of Rs 1,34,86,214.

The Lok Adalat was held under the patronage and guidance of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere, High Court of Meghalaya and Patron-in-Chief of MSLSA, and under the supervision of Justice HS Thangkhiew, Executive Chairman of MSLSA, and Justice W Diengdoh, Chairperson of the High Court Legal Services Committee.

It was conducted under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority.

According to Member Secretary E Kharumnuid, a total of 625 cases were taken up during the Lok Adalat. “In the National Lok Adalat, 242 pre-litigation cases and 383 pending cases were taken up for settlement,” the MSLSA said in a statement.

“Total number of cases taken up was 625, of which 183 cases were settled for a total amount of Rs. 1,34,86,214/- only,” Kharumnuid said.
