‘Neng·takram’ Resting Arena Inaugurated Near SP Office, Williamnagar Ahead of Christmas

Williamnagar, Dec. 21: A pre-Christmas programme was held near the SP Office, Williamnagar, on December 21, 2025, during which a newly constructed resting place named ‘Neng·takram’ along with festive light decorations was inaugurated by Cabinet Minister Marcuise N. Marak.

The event was also graced by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Western Range, J.F.K. Marak, along with other dignitaries and members of the public from all walks of life.

The welcome address was delivered by the Superintendent of Police, East Garo Hills, Stephen A. Rynjah, who explained the purpose behind creating the resting arena. He said that many people visiting the SP Office, especially those coming from distant places, often did not have a proper place to rest and were compelled to sit on footpaths or nearby areas. Keeping this in mind, the police department decided to construct a dedicated sitting and resting space. He added that ‘Neng·takram’ is not meant only for visitors to the SP Office but is open for use by everyone.

The Guest of Honour, J.F.K. Marak, expressed his gratitude to the Cabinet Minister for gracing the occasion and congratulated the SP and his team for the initiative. He appreciated the beautiful light decorations and the construction of ‘Neng·takram’, stating that it would serve as a good recreational and relaxation space, especially for police personnel. He also thanked the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma, for introducing the Police Infrastructure and Renovation Scheme, under which several dilapidated police buildings across the state have been successfully renovated.

Speaking on the significance of Christmas, J.F.K. Marak remarked that the festival is not only about decorations, gifts, cakes, and community feasts, but also a time to cherish family, loved ones, and create lasting memories. He further reminded police personnel to remain disciplined and avoid overindulgence in activities that could adversely affect their duties and responsibilities.

The Chief Guest, Cabinet Minister Marcuise N. Marak, applauded the efforts of SP Stephen A. Rynjah and his team, stating that under his leadership, innovative and creative initiatives such as the resting arena and festive decorations have taken shape in Williamnagar. He congratulated all police personnel for their hard work and dedication, describing it as a reflection of their commitment to serve the people, build trust and friendship, and uphold the rule of law, the true essence of the police force.

Special musical performances by Holyfield R. Marak and Mibande Ch. Marak added colour to the pre-Christmas celebration. After the programme, the festive lights were officially switched on by the chief guest and other dignitaries. The illuminated arena soon attracted a large number of people, who gathered to enjoy the decorations and the welcoming new public space.
