Shillong, May 22: The district administration of East Jaintia Hills has assured to implement a ‘No Entry’ for heavy vehicles during school hours in Khliehriat from tomorrow.
“The Deputy Commissioner has assured that a No Entry for heavy vehicles from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM and from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, effective the following day,” JNC Khliehriat Circle general secretary Symboh Baiar Sumer said in a statement.
He said assurance was made based on the request of the Council after receiving complaints from parents regarding the challenges students faced during pick up and dropping, primarily due to the unregulated movement of large vehicles which jeopardize the safety of school children.

Accordingly, the JNC met with the Deputy Commissioner to address the risks faced by students crossing National Highway 6 to attend school, especially given the ongoing road construction that exacerbates the situation.
“During the meeting, the JNC-KC urged the Deputy Commissioner to implement a No Entry rule for heavy vehicles during school commuting hours to alleviate traffic congestion and ensure student safety,” he said.
