SHILLONG, DEC 1: Congress chief Vincent H Pala has stated that there have been no talks with any of the ministers, who were recently dropped from the Conrad Sangma-led cabinet, but emphasized that the party’s strength and performance in Garo Hills will be a key factor in attracting defectors.
“We do not have any such talks, but we welcome everybody,” Pala said, adding that his approachable nature and lack of enemies make him a unifying figure in the party.
“I have no enemy compared to the rest of them,” he told reporters on Monday.

Pala indicated that some leaders are waiting to see the Congress’s performance in Garo Hills before making a move.
“It depends on our performance in Garo Hills and it depends on our preparation for the organization… Nobody will join us if we are weak, but if we are strong, people will be ready to top up and ready to join us.”
While Pala did not confirm specific talks with former ministers, he said, “I am in talks with many friends, and many friends are ready to join, but I will be leaving for the US to attend a conference on drug abuse and human trafficking on December 6. So, in January, quite a few of them will be joining the Congress.”
