NPP Initiates Lok Sabha Campaign: Ampareen advocates 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament

Shillong, Jan 26: The National People’s Party (NPP) has kicked off the campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha MP election, with candidate Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh setting her sights on the 33 per cent reservation designated for women in Parliament. Dr. Lyngdoh aims to bring attention to the importance of women’s representation in the political landscape and contribute to achieving gender parity in the parliamentary sphere.

In a meeting with NPP District and block members in Nongstoiñ, Dr. Ampareen expressed her belief in the resonance of the 33 per cent reservation bill for women. Addressing the gathering on Thursday, she emphasised the significance of having a champion who understands and encourages the needs of women.

Ampareen, being a woman herself, highlighted the importance of identifying household issues from a women’s perspective and stressed the role of female representation in addressing these concerns.

She urged the people to vote for her in the upcoming MP election. Emphasising her experience, dedication, and knowledge, she positions herself as a capable candidate who understands the needs of the constituency. She also articulated her decision to contest as an act of service before self, highlighting her commitment to public service and the welfare of the community.

“As an MP, I could bring the needs of the state to the central government, be it schemes, individual requirements, or any issues and It’s time to choose the representative from a ruling party to see the positive role an MP can bring,” she said.

Emphasising the pivotal role of women in politics, Dr. Ampareen expressed her joy in promoting the active involvement of women in the political arena. As a representative from a matrilineal society, she sees the opportunity, if elected, to convey the message to all women in the 36th constituency about the importance of their participation and engagement in politics.

“We all need to know that the person we are sending to New Delhi has a role to play that has been assigned to them…”, she added.

Highlighting the NPP’s commitment to fulfilling promises beyond election cycles, Dr. Ampareen affirmed that if elected, she would ensure New Delhi acknowledges the distinct cultures and identities of the Garo, Khasi, and Jaiñtia communities. Emphasising that these unique cultural heritages can never be submerged or forgotten, she offered assurance that the concerns and aspirations of the region will be effectively represented.
