Shillong, Oct 7: In a major breakthrough Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday informed that one person has been arrested for placing a crude Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at NPP office, and few others that have been identified are being traced.
“There has been one arrest that has been made and the concerned person has already admitted that he had placed the bomb here and through that more investigation is taking place,” informed the Chief Minister while speaking to reporters outside NPP office.
Refusing to divulge more details he said, “At the same time there are another few individuals involved not only in this case but also the last bombing and they have also been traced”.
Informing that the individual who had placed the bomb has been arrested and interrogation is on and more leads will be found through him, he said, “Some more development will takes place in the evening in terms of others who are involved in this particular incident”.
On the prevailing law and order situation and the fears of the public, Sangma said,”Law and order situation is fine this was isolated incident that happened of course we are not undermining the seriousness of it”.
Stating that it is a serious matter and a serious breach, he asserted, ” The police department will do everything in their capacity to ensure that people responsible are caught and ensure that this kind of situation does not happen in future”.
“Overall law and order situation is normal and we will ensure in future we will do every step require to ensure such incidents does not happen,” he added.
HNLC places IED outside NPP office
HNLC had placed a 5kg IED at the gate of the NPP office at Lachumiere on October 4, 2021. The bomb was spotted by nearby shop keepers, who promptly informed the police.The bomb disposal squad quickly arrived and diffused the bomb.
HNLC claimed that the bomb was placed in reaction to the killing of former HNLC general secretary Cherishterfield Thangkhiew, which the outfit claimed was a complete “political conspiracy” by some ministers .
