CM instructs police to take strict action against piracy of Zubeen Garg’s film
Guwahati, Nov 10: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that instructions have been issued to the police to take strict action against the piracy of Zubeen Garg’s film Roi Roi Binale.
Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said, “We are concerned about the piracy of Roi Roi Binale and have instructed the police to take strict measures to stop it. I appeal to the people of Assam not to indulge in piracy. Anyone found engaging in or supporting piracy should be reported to the nearest police station.”
Filmmaker Samujjal Kashyap expressed deep concern over the issue, calling it a major setback for the Assamese film industry. “We did not expect this. A new problem has suddenly arisen that is harmful to our film industry. Roi Roi Binale was Zubeen Garg’s last film, and now some people are involved in pirating it. The film deserves commercial success, but instead, people are recording it and uploading it on social media platforms,” he said.
“I request everyone—if you truly love Zubeen Da, please don’t engage in such acts. Don’t upload the film. Some big industry players involved in piracy have targeted this movie after seeing its commercial success,” Kashyap added.
He further said, “I appeal to the public to report any act of piracy. Some groups are making money by creating 4K versions of the film. People must come forward to stop this menace.”
Roi Roi Binale, the last film featuring the late Zubeen Garg, was released on October 31, 2025, and has received an overwhelming response from audiences. Viewers have been thronging theatres across Assam to watch the movie.
In a related incident, Dibrugarh police detained a woman from the Moran area after she was allegedly found watching a pirated version of Roi Roi Binale on her mobile phone. The woman, identified as Junty Gogoi, runs a fast-food stall near Housefull Talkies in Moran, according to reports. Locals spotted her streaming the film and immediately informed members of the Zubeen Friends Club.
Filmmakers have raised alarm over the rampant piracy that struck the film within days of its release. Their plea for justice has reignited discussions about the growing threat of movie piracy in Assam’s entertainment industry.
The film, which opened to packed theatres and glowing reviews, became a victim of digital theft just nine days after its theatrical debut. Copies of the movie surfaced on various illegal streaming websites and social media channels, threatening its box-office performance and discouraging local filmmakers already struggling with limited budgets.
