Shillong, Oct 25: Meghalaya Police on Monday late evening managed to rescue a teenage girl allegedly kidnapped by her own brother-in-law who was the taxi driver whose cab she boarded while on her way to Mairang.

According to sources, the Umiam Police on receiving information from Mairang police station that one girl has been kidnapped, retrieved the girl’s mobile location which showed that she was taken through the interior road of Mawmaram to Lad Umsaw. The police laid a trap at Lad Umsaw in Ri Bhoi District, where in an hour they managed to nab the vehicle, rescue the girl and arrested the driver involved in the kidnapping.

It was informed that, the girl, who was heading from Kynshi village toward Mairang for her studies, boarded the taxi cab bearing the number ML 05 U 2717 which was driven by her own brother in law, identified as Finance Chester Pariong. The driver instead of taking the main road to Mairang, took her to the interior road from Mawmaram, stating that he has some work in Shillong which made the girl suspicious of him which prompted her to inform her relatives.

Allegedly, the driver also tried to sexually harass the girl while in their journey through Mawmaram road.

After nabbing the culprit, Umiam Police handed over the case to Mairang PS for further investigation.
