Imphal, Apr 13: Protests swept across several valley districts of Manipur on Sunday, with thousands taking to the streets demanding justice for two children killed in a recent mortar blast in Bishnupur district.
A major rally organised by Uripok Apunba Lup in Imphal West began from Lambui Khongnangkhong and marched towards Bazar Overbridge, drawing large crowds. Many children joined the protest, reflecting the deep emotional impact of the incident.

In Imphal East, rallies from Ukhrul Road, Tinset Road and Pangei Road converged at Lamlong Bazar, where thousands gathered to demand accountability and a thorough probe.
“Residents, mothers and local organisations have come together to seek justice for the two minors killed in the mortar attack and to protest alleged security lapses,” said Sunil Dhruv Singh, general secretary of Uripok Apunba Lup.
The incident occurred earlier this week in Bishnupur district, where suspected Kuki militants allegedly hurled an explosive at a residential house. The attack killed a five-year-old boy and a six-month-old girl, sparking outrage across the state.
Meanwhile, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti strongly condemned the killings, calling the incident “horrific” and deeply disturbing.
The protests come amid growing anger over civilian safety and renewed calls for accountability in conflict-hit areas of Manipur.
