NONGPOH, Aug 1: The Ri Bhoi District Administration on Friday organised the Sampoornata Abhiyan Samman Samaroh and officially launched the Aakansha Haat, marking a significant push towards inclusive development under the ongoing Aspirational Districts and Aspirational Blocks programmes spearheaded by NITI Aayog.

Held at the NSCA Mini Stadium in Nongpoh, the event was graced by Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong as the Chief Guest. In his address, Tynsong lauded the tireless efforts of Anganwadi workers, ASHA personnel, and other grassroots functionaries, emphasising their critical role in advancing development indicators. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to achieving 100% saturation across key sectors and called for a continued, community-driven approach to governance.

The highlight of the programme was the inauguration of Aakansha Haat, a weeklong exhibition-cum-marketplace aimed at empowering self-help groups (SHGs), rural artisans, and local entrepreneurs. The initiative provides a platform for these groups to display and sell locally made products, promoting economic self-reliance and rural enterprise.

Also present at the event were local legislators Mayralborn Syiem (Nongpoh), Sosthenes Sohtun (Jirang), Charles Marngar (Mawhati), and Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh (Umsning), who collectively praised the contributions of frontline workers and emphasised the need for sustained coordination to close development gaps in the district.

Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, in his remarks, outlined the district’s progress across key performance indicators under the Aspirational District programme. He noted that only two targets — antenatal registration in the first trimester and full child immunization — remain to be fully achieved, and expressed confidence that these would soon be met through ongoing inter-departmental efforts and grassroots participation.

Ri Bhoi has earned national recognition as the top-performing Aspirational District in the Health and Nutrition sector, a testament to the district’s effective governance and strong community engagement.

The programme concluded with the Samman Samaroh, where outstanding frontline workers were felicitated for their exemplary service in implementing government schemes and contributing to the district’s development journey.

The Ri Bhoi District Administration reaffirmed its commitment to fostering inclusive growth, sustainable development and people-centric governance — in line with the vision of a progressive Meghalaya.
