Guwahati, June 30: Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Tuesday reviewed the flood situation across the Northeast and assured all possible assistance from the Centre to support rescue, relief and restoration efforts in the affected states.

Scindia held separate discussions with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh to assess the ground situation and take stock of the ongoing response to the floods triggered by incessant rainfall.

During the interactions, the Union minister assured the chief ministers of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region’s (MDoNER) full support in safeguarding lives, strengthening relief operations and restoring normalcy at the earliest.

According to the ministry, Assam remains among the worst-hit states, with flooding reported in six districts, while Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed flood-related impacts in 12 of its 28 districts following continuous heavy rainfall.

Sikkim and Manipur are also facing adverse weather conditions, while Meghalaya remains on alert.

The ministry said Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura are being closely monitored in view of the prevailing weather conditions across the region.

MDoNER said it is in constant coordination with the affected state governments and central agencies to facilitate timely assistance wherever required.

Scindia also prayed for the safety and well-being of those affected by the floods and reiterated the Centre’s commitment to working closely with the state governments to minimise the impact of the disaster and expedite rescue, relief and restoration efforts.

The review comes as several northeastern states continue to grapple with floods and landslides triggered by days of heavy rainfall, causing widespread damage to infrastructure, disrupting connectivity and displacing thousands of people.
