Shillong, June 29: The century old hospital, Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital at Jaïaw, Shillong got a newly constructed driveway, sponsored by the family of Dr. D D Lapang, as the hospital is celebrating its Centenary year.

Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest, Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong said that the Roberts Hospital has contributed so much towards the health of the people both physically and spiritually. He also thanked the doctors and nurses of the hospital who dedicated themselves towards fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tynsong also pointed out that there have been unwanted issues relating to the services of the hospital in recent years and urged the Governing Board to put an end to all these unwanted news.

The Deputy CM further informed that the government will rename the road from Umtyngar to Nongsawlia as Thomas Jones Road, in order to honour Thomas Jones – The Father of Khasi Alphabet.

Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital, Shillong, was opened on March 25, 2022.

Guest of Honour and Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya, Dr DD Lapang said the beauty of Roberts Hospital is that it is a hospital for all, irrespective of any clan or religion.

The program was also attended by Amethyst Lynda Blah, wife of Dr DD Lapang, Chairman of the Hospital Governing Body Rev SS Majaw, Medical Superintendent of Roberts Hospital Dr R Nongrum, MDC of Mawhati constituency Charles Marngar, doctors, nurses and all the staff members of the Roberts Hospital.
