Salrime’s success tugs Tura heartstrings

Tura, May 30: For 16 year old Salrime M Sangma, challenges came early in life. She lost her father when she was barely three years old and, together with her elder brother and sister, were brought up by her mother who singlehandedly took on the responsibility to ensure her three children rose up in life, no matter the odds they faced.

Today, success has embraced Salrime with the X SSLC results of the state placing her in number 3 position of the state, a performance that has made many to sit up and take notice.

Her hardships in school life, absence of any remedial classes or tuitions due to financial constraints all through her school years failed to deter this young girl who went on to bring happiness to her mother and family with this astonishing results.

And Salrime’s success has tugged the heartstrings of many in Tura who wish to be a part of her journey.

People from different walks of life, shopkeepers to officegoers, veterinarians and even the West Garo Hills district police have been reaching out with their support and setting an example for others to emulate.

“What touched me the most was to know that this young girl worked hard in the absence of any facilities or opportunities. She is a role model for the youth,” said a lady veterinarian who was touched by her success story.

An education technology organization that delivers career counselling services to students and youth of the country- Mere Mentor presented Salrime with a gift voucher and will be supporting her in pursuing her career to crack the union civil services.

The West Garo Hills police have also undertaken a fund drive to aid the young topper as she embarks on the next course of her educational journey. They contributed a sum of ₹ 50,000/-

“I want to thank everyone who has touched my life and my journey and I will continue to work hard to make each of you proud,” said Salrime Sangma.

“Never be afraid but confident no matter how difficult the problem may appear to be. All we need to have is focus and concentration and things will fall in place,” advised the young Tura topper.
