Must read

Shillong, Oct 10: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar has announced that the tender for the expansion of Shillong airport has been called and work will start very soon.

According to him, the land acquisition process is almost complete, with compensation disbursement already starting for some landowners.

“The tender has been called, which means the work is moving ahead. Land acquisition process is almost completed. It seems for some, they have started disbursement of compensation,” he told reporters on Friday.

“When everything is being disbursed, I will be able to tell you the cost for land acquisition,” he added.

While the exact cost of the project is yet to be finalized, Dhar assured that the expansion will be borne by the Government of India, not the state.

Expressing optimism about the project’s timeline, Dhar hopes to complete the airport expansion by 2027, which would enable the operation of bigger flights.

“I will try my best to complete the airport at the earliest possible. By 2027, I should be able to give you big flights,” he said.
