Announcing this after chairing a meeting with representatives of over 10 dorbar shnongs under West Shillong constituency here on Tuesday, Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh said that issues relating to instances where witnesses having to turn up in court several times year after year have become a big deterrent for the participation of the community.

Leaders from SAFF attended the meeting, which was held at the Secretariat in the minister's chamber.

In a Tweet, he said, "Exemplary efforts of Assam Police in combating the drug menace are highly appreciated. Keep up the good work!"

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday congratulated the state police department on their great work. He also urged the Police department to continue their work to control and end the menace of drug abuse in the State.

The event, organized by Assam Rifles, aimed to raise awareness about the devastating impact of drugs and encourage a drug-free lifestyle.
