Guwahati, June 2: Thousands of kilometres away from Hyderabad, the colours, traditions and cultural spirit of Telangana found a home in Assam on Tuesday as Telangana Foundation Day was celebrated in Guwahati under the Centre’s ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative.
The programme, organised by Lok Bhavan, Assam, at the Kanaklal Barua Auditorium of the Assam State Museum, brought together government officials, members of the Telugu community, students and cultural enthusiasts in a celebration that highlighted the idea of unity in diversity.
The event was attended by Assam Minister Rameswar Teli, Additional Chief Secretary B. Kalyan Chakraborty, Telugu Association President Srinivas Reddy and several members of the Telugu-speaking community who have made Assam their home over the decades.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Rameswar Teli recalled the formation of Telangana as India’s youngest state on June 2, 2014, and highlighted its remarkable growth over the past decade.
He noted that Telangana has emerged as one of the country’s leading states in sectors such as agriculture, fisheries and entertainment, with products like rice, fish and eggs reaching markets across India. He also pointed to the state’s growing contribution to the national economy and its reputation as a hub for innovation and development.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”, Teli said such celebrations play an important role in bringing people from different regions closer together.
“Today, Assam showcased its culture, and Telangana’s culture was also presented. We want people from different parts of India to interact, understand each other’s traditions, and work together for the development of the nation,” he said.
For members of Assam’s Telugu community, the occasion carried a special significance.
Speaking on the occasion, Telugu Association President Srinivas Reddy thanked the Assam Governor and the state government for creating a platform where members of the community could celebrate their cultural roots while living far from their home state.
“We are very happy to celebrate Telangana Statehood Day here as part of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. Though we are living far from our home state and have been residing in Assam for decades, it is heartening to see our community being recognized and given a platform to showcase our culture and traditions,” Reddy said.
He also expressed gratitude to Minister Rameswar Teli, Additional Chief Secretary B. Kalyan Chakraborty and officials of Lok Bhavan for supporting the initiative.
The celebration featured cultural performances, community interactions and exchanges that reflected the shared spirit of India’s diverse traditions. Beyond marking Telangana’s Foundation Day, the event served as a reminder of how communities from different corners of the country continue to enrich Assam’s social and cultural landscape while strengthening the bonds that connect the nation.
