Tezpur University students enforce total campus lockdown over financial, administrative grievances

Must read

Guwahati, Nov 28: Students of Tezpur University on Thursday enforced a complete lockdown of the campus, escalating their protest against the university administration over alleged financial and infrastructural irregularities.

The students are demanding the immediate presence of two senior officials—Finance Officer Braja Bandhu Mishra and Chief Executive Engineer Jadav Chandra Nath—to hold a direct dialogue addressing what they describe as long-standing discrepancies at the institution.

They have also called for the appointment of an Acting Vice Chancellor to oversee university operations amid the ongoing crisis and pending investigations.

In a renewed appeal to the Union Ministry of Education, the student community sought urgent intervention.

“This lockdown will continue indefinitely until our core demands are met. We stand firm in our pursuit of transparency, accountability, and responsible leadership,” a student representative said.

The Tezpur University United Forum (TUUF) has accused the Vice-Chancellor of multiple financial irregularities, including violations of PM Rozgar Yojana guidelines and alleged breaches of UGC recruitment norms. Students have also flagged concerns over the arbitrary extension of the Finance Officer’s tenure, substandard construction in new hostels, and alleged mental harassment of contractual staff through salary delays and abrupt terminations.
