TIPRA MOTHA chief halts indefinite hunger strike to head to Delhi after talks invitation

Guwahati, Feb 28: Fast paced political developments are emerging in Tripura where Pradyot Kishore Manikya Deb Barman, tribal leader and founder of TIPRA Motha- the state’s main opposition party, who has been holding an indefinite fast to demand for a separate Greater Tipraland state announcing a temporary halt to the protest so as to head to New Delhi ostensibly for talks with the centre.

The TIPRA Motha chief announced his departure to Delhi for discussions in a speech he made before his supporters on Wednesday.

He revealed that he had received a crucial phone call from central government officials indicating a potential breakthrough in negotiations over the demands for a separate Greater Tipraland state and other tribal issues through a constitutional solution.

He had been on a fast unto death at Hatai Kotor with thousands of tribals community members coming in to give him support in his fight for tribal rights.
