Agartala, June 12: In a chilling twist to a missing person case, the body of 28-year-old Sariful Islam—an electrician linked with the Agartala Smart City Mission—was recovered on Wednesday from a trolley bag stuffed inside an ice-cream freezer in Gandacherra market, around 120 km from the state capital.
Sariful had been missing since June 8. After days of investigation, police revealed that the murder was the result of a love triangle involving the victim, a woman, and the prime accused—Dr. Dibakar Saha (28).
According to officials, Dibakar lured Sariful to the house of one Joydeep Das (20) in the South Indranagar Kabarkhala area, under the pretext of handing over a gift. There, Sariful was allegedly ambushed and strangled by Dibakar with the help of two accomplices—Animesh Yadav (21) and Nabanita Das (25). His body was then packed into a trolley bag bought in advance for the crime.
The following morning, Dibakar’s parents, Dipak Saha (52) and Debika Saha (48), reportedly traveled from Gandacherra to Agartala, took possession of the bag, and transported it back. The corpse was hidden inside a freezer at their shop in Gandacherra market.
All six accused—including Dibakar, his parents, and three others—were arrested on Tuesday night. Police recovered digital evidence such as text messages, which confirm that the murder stemmed from a bitter romantic entanglement.
The accused are scheduled to be produced before the court on Thursday.
