Shillong, June 11: Meghalaya’s Minister of Tourism, Bah Paul Lyngdoh, on Tuesday felicitated police personnel and volunteers who played key roles in a multi-agency search and rescue operation conducted in the Sohra region over the past few days.
The ceremony was held in the presence of MLA Gavin M. Mylliem, MDC T.W. Chyne, Director of Tourism Cyril V.D. Diengdoh, and the SDO of Sohra Civil Sub-Division, recognizing the efforts of individuals and teams who worked under challenging conditions to execute the high-risk operation.
The search and rescue mission was led by the Meghalaya Police, in close coordination with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The operation also saw significant support from local organisations and volunteers, including members of the Tour Guides Association of Meghalaya (Central Body & Sohra Unit), local guides, the West Jaintia Hills District Adventure Sports and Mountaineering Club, the Sohra Taxi Owners Association, Fire & Emergency Services (Sohra), and drone operators from the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC).
The Meghalaya Police contingent included officers and personnel from the East Khasi Hills District Police, Special Operations Team, Sohra Police Station, Bholaganj Police Check Post, and the Tyllap Outpost.
The search and rescue operation involved in locating Raja Raghuvanshi, whose death and the subsequent surrender of his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, have made national headlines.
Speaking at the event, Minister Lyngdoh praised the seamless coordination among multiple agencies and the commitment of local communities. “This operation is a shining example of how institutional efficiency and community spirit can come together in moments of crisis,” he said.
