Tura night bus attacked with stones, passenger and handyman injured

Tura, Oct 21: Unidentified persons targeted the night bus going from Tura to Shillong at Mirza town, near Guwahati, at around 2 AM on Thursday, pelting stones that damaged the front portion of the bus and caused injuries to a passenger and the handyman of the vehicle.

The incident happened just as the night bus belonging to Network Travels AS01H 2544 was entering Mirza town, outskirts of Guwahati airport, early in the morning. The bus was filled with passengers who were travelling from Tura to Shillong.

A stone that was lobbed at high velocity crashed into the front windshield of the bus which was on the move. The bus had left Rajapara town after dinner barely half an hour when the incident took place. The stone caused the windshield to explode and a middle aged passenger who was sitting in the front portion of the cabin was hit by the exploding glass shrapnel of the windshield on his face. A handyman of the bus who was seated next to him also sustained minor injuries.

The driver managed to get the bus forward till the Mirza police junction before seeking help. Police and ambulance arrived on the scene and the injured passenger was taken to Mirza hospital for first aid along with the driver.

After formalities the bus was allowed to proceed on while police launched a search to nab the culprits behind the incident. This is the second incident concerning a night bus in the last two weeks. Earlier, a MTC night bus plunged into the Ringdi river in Nongchram village, near Rongjeng, causing the deaths of six people and injury to scores of others.
