Guwahati, May 29: The Assam police busted a counterfeit currency smuggling racket in Goalpara district and arrested two persons in connection with the racket on Wednesday.
A huge amount counterfeit currency has been seized from their possession during the crackdown. The police later seized uncovered counterfeit currency totalling worth 5 lakhs 11 thousand rupees.
The arrested persons has been identified as Jamaat Ali(27) and Muslim Ali (35), both were the residents of Krishnai Ashudubi in Goalpara.
According to police, the smugglers intended to circulate the fake notes in Budhipara, Agia.
“After getting tip off information regarding the fake currency notes, we have launched an operation and arrested two persons in connection with the fake currency and seized around 5 lakhs and 11 thousand from them,” said an police officer.
On May 25, 2024, the Assam police Special Task Force (STF) arrested two persons with a consignment of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) worth ₹5,55,500 lakhs.
The accused has been identified as Md. Rofikul Islam and Sirajul Alom.
