Tura, Jan 8: Teams of young sportspersons from different corners of Garo Hills have descended on the tourist attraction region of Siju in South Garo Hills to participate in the three-day open Volleyball championship which began on Thursday.

Organized by the local club Kengkam Youth Club, the tournament was inaugurated by Rongara-Siju MLA Rakkam A Sangma in the presence of Chokpot MLA Lazarus M Sangma, additional district magistrate M T Sangma and district SP Priyangshu Pandey.

Speaking at the inauguration of the tournament, Rakkam Sangma said that organizing such tournaments in the rural and interior areas help to tap the potential of the youth who seldom get a chance to showcase their talent.

He expressed joy on seeing the large turnout of young boys and men keenly taking part in the event and said it will help them to participate in bigger sporting activities in the state level in near future.

This being the perfect season for tourism, Siju and Rewak are favorite sites for many tourists who come to Garo Hills to enjoy the best of nature. With its clean air, lush green forests and rivers rich in marine life, the region is a paradise for tourists.
