VPP will only protest against Hindi in Parliament: Prestone tells Khasi-Jaintia voters

Must read

Shillong, Mar 7: State president of the National People’s Party (NPP) and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Thursday said sending the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) candidate to Parliament will be a total waste as they are totally against Hindi. He asked the people of Khasi and Jaintia Hills region to not get fooled by the VPP.

Speaking at the 3rd State Youth Conference of the National People’s Youth Front (NPYF), Tynsong said, “Recently a person had observed that if we send the VPP to parliament, they will only stage a walkout and thus will not be able to participate for five years. Why? Because they oppose Hindi but in parliament everyone is speaking Hindi.”

“Therefore, we should come out from here and sensitize the people that they should vote out, especially the VPP candidate, who is totally against Hindi because he will walkout from the parliament. If you walk out, what will you speak in parliament, it will be a waste,” he said while urging the people of Shillong constituency to wake up as time is still there for them not to get fooled by such a party.

Referring to the opposition parties staging walkout during the just concluded Assembly’s budget session, Tynsong said, “I am not the one saying this but you have seen they have done it in action in the House. I am not lying but people saw from the live telecast which reflects that they are cowards.

When the CM stood up to give his reply (to the budget discussion) and also to give detailed presentation of the budget, in the name of the rule, they staged a walkout.”

He also guessed that the opposition members must have watched the CM’s budget reply in the TV provided in the opposition room. Tynsong however expressed surprise that only the VPP president Ardent M Basaiawmoit was alleging that the present government of Meghalaya is full of debts, which according to him means that Basaiawmoit is the only one who did watch the TV showing the CM’s budget reply.

Urging the opposition to feel free to seek clarification on the matter, Tynsong said, “CM’s room is big and my room is also near to his, so I urge them to come forward because CM is willing to give another presentation.”

Claiming that the MDA-2 government is a record breaker just in six years time, the NPP state president said, “We have broken the records in terms of budget, investment, and development within six years. Therefore, those who are shouting in the market places let them shout because they only are good at talking big.”

Further, Tynsong said that the NPYF also stands to serve the people of Khasi and Jaintia Hills region of the state.

“Why I said this because there are few who claim that they love the jaidbynriew (indigenous community) more than anyone else but I say that the NPYF also loves the jaidbynriew more than anyone else,” he said.

He also informed that a massive meeting will also be held at Adokgre in Garo Hills on March 15, to gear up the party’s preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

He urged party workers to work hard to ensure both candidates – Agatha Sangma from Tura and Ampareen Lyngdoh from Shillong – come out victorious in the elections.

“We will create a record this time that from Meghalaya we send both women to be the voice of the people of the state,” Tynsong added.
