West Garo Hills district to receive more rainfall in the next 24 hours: Met Dept

Shillong, Oct 4: West Garo Hills district and its surrounding areas are likely to receive more rainfall in the next 24 hours as forecasted by the India Meteorological department.

“Thunderstorm/Lightning and heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy rain are very likely to occur at most places over West Garo Hills in the next 24 hours. Citizens are advised to be cautious,” the State Disaster Management Authority has cautioned.

Already the incessant rainfall for the past couple of days has caused havoc in the district and its surrounding areas causing the death of 3 persons and injuring several others due to landslide and flash floods.

On Friday, Tura alone received 176.5 mm of rainfall till late in the afternoon. This heavy and incessant rainfall caused the flash floods and landslides.

The Met department has also changed its forecast from orange to red for the district, which means there would be more rainfall and the public have been advised not to venture towards water bodies and other vulnerable areas.
