Women BLOs lead voter awareness drive in South West Garo Hills

Must read

Ampati, July 3: Women Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in South West Garo Hills have taken the lead in strengthening the electoral process by spearheading a voter awareness campaign under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The women BLOs have been touring villages, particularly in remote areas, organising community meetings and visiting households to encourage eligible voters to verify and update their electoral details.

The annual SIR exercise is aimed at adding new eligible voters, removing ineligible entries and correcting existing records to ensure the electoral roll remains updated, inclusive and error-free.

At the grassroots, the women BLOs have become the face of the campaign, helping residents understand the importance of keeping their voter information current while encouraging greater participation in the democratic process.

Their close engagement with communities has helped build trust and improve electoral awareness, particularly in remote villages where access to official information is often limited.

The district administration appreciated the commitment and community-driven approach of the women BLOs in expanding the campaign’s outreach. Officials also reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring maximum public participation throughout the revision exercise, describing an accurate electoral roll as “the very basis for free and fair elections.”
