Guwahati, Jan 8: In a swift, intelligence-led operation near the India–Myanmar border, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in coordination with the Assam Rifles, dismantled a major international drug trafficking network, seizing 7.312 kg of high-grade heroin.
Officials said a Bolero vehicle was intercepted close to the border, leading to the recovery of the contraband ingeniously concealed inside 638 soap cases—a method increasingly used by cross-border syndicates to evade detection. Two traffickers were arrested during the operation.
The seized heroin is estimated to be worth around ₹15 crore in the illicit international market, underscoring the scale and sophistication of the network operating along the porous frontier with Myanmar.
The NCB reiterated its commitment to disrupting transnational narcotics routes and called for public cooperation. Citizens can report drug-related activity via the MANAS Helpline (toll-free: 1933). Authorities assured that informers’ identities are kept strictly confidential.
The bust marks another significant blow to cross-border drug trafficking in the Northeast, highlighting the growing coordination between enforcement agencies to curb the flow of narcotics into the country.
