Aizawl, Aug 22: In a major crackdown on cross-border drug trafficking, Mizoram Excise & Narcotics Department, along with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and 191 Bn BSF, seized 49.1 kg of methamphetamine worth ₹75 crore and 36 grams of heroin from two trucks on NH-06A between Keifang and Seling on Thursday evening.
Officials said this is the second-largest meth seizure in Mizoram, following the record recovery of nearly 100 kg a few years ago. The drugs, hidden in concealed compartments of vehicles, are suspected to have been smuggled in from Myanmar.

Eight persons were arrested in the operation—identified as Zoramsiama (25), Lalruatkima (42), Nanglamthanga (20), David Lalhmachhuana (28), T. Chatuanvanlalnghaka (29), Lalramthara (27), Hmangaihzaua (38), and Lalrammuana (29).
Authorities also seized four vehicles used in the trafficking: a TATA truck (MZ01F-1037), a Renault Duster (MZ07-7237), an Ashok Leyland truck (MZ06-8810), and a Mahindra Bolero (MZ01Z-8246).
The accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, which prescribes imprisonment of 10 to 20 years and fines up to ₹2 lakh for such offences.
