35 thousand new doses of Covishield arrive in Meghalaya

Shillong, Jan 21: With the successful rollout of the first batch of Covishield. Meghalaya received another 35 thousand doses of corona Virus vaccination (Covishield) as the second batch for vaccination in the state.

With the receiving of the second batch, the state is capable of vaccinating around 32,000 people.

Commissioner Secretary Health, Sampath Kumar said, “Tuesday we have received another 35,000 doses of Covishield, the Serum Institute of India’s coronavirus vaccine as now we can vaccinate 32 thousand people.”

Till Wednesday late night information, about 1,344 health care workers are vaccinated and now as more vaccination doses have arrived the state begins to receive the applications from the frontline workers as well.

After all health workers receive the shots, the government will focus on frontline workers, municipal workers, police personnel, and people working in disaster management. In the third phase, people aged above 50 years and those with comorbidities will be covered.

Stating that after around thirty thousand health care workers are vaccinated the Government will roll out a vaccination drive for the frontline workers, Kumar said, “There are 27,087 health care workers in the entire state and over two thousand are from central agencies which make it around 30,000 health care workers… so after that, we will start with frontline workers.”

He also informed that the antibody will develop only 42 days after the first vaccination dose or two weeks after the second vaccination dose.
