Must read

Imphal, Sept 11: Members of the 43-Phungyar BJP mandal and morchas tendered their resignation from the party’s primary membership on Thursday ahead of PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the state.

The move was led by Nachonmi Ramshang, special invitee to BJP Manipur Pradesh, alongside several senior active members. Those resigning include the 43-Phungyar mandal president and colleague, mahila morcha president and colleague, Yuva morcha president and colleague, kishan morcha president and colleague, ST morcha executive, and as many as 53 booth presidents.

In a press release, the members expressed “deep concern over the present state of affairs within the party,” citing lack of consultation, inclusiveness, and respect for grassroots leadership as key reasons. “Our loyalty to the party and its ideology has always been unwavering. We reaffirm our commitment to work for the welfare of our community and the people of Manipur,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the United Naga Council (UNC) has imposed an economic blockade on the Mao–Imphal National Highway. The Autonomous District Councils of the hill districts (ADCs) continue to protest the state government’s failure to conduct ADC elections for the past five years, which they argue undermines grassroots democracy in the tribal hill areas.
