Guwahati, June 13: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Assam Police seized 44,000 Yaba tablets worth approximately ₹6.5 crore and arrested five individuals in the Sribhumi district on Thursday.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the police for the successful anti-narcotics operation, which was based on specific intelligence inputs.
The operation took place in the Veterbond area under Ratabari Police Station, where a vehicle (registration number AS 11/EC 5747) coming from Mizoram was intercepted. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the banned stimulant tablets.
“Yaba, which translates to ‘crazy medicine’ in Thai, contains methamphetamine and caffeine. It is banned under the Controlled Substances Act,” said Sribhumi SSP P.P. Das.
This seizure follows an earlier operation in Cachar district, where drugs worth ₹45 crore were recovered and four individuals arrested for drug peddling.
