Tura, Jan 13: Three women and two children were killed in a road accident in Nangalbibra region of South Garo Hills on Tuesday night. The incident occurred at Pathargittim area under nangalbibra police station jurisdiction around 10:30 P.M.
According to South Garo Hills Superintendent of police P Pandey, the victims were coming back from a traditional Song Kristan dance festival in a bolero camper and heading for their homes when their vehicle crashed directly into the back of a truck that was parked on the side of the road.
Four of the victims died on the spot and a fifth passed away in Williamnagar civil hospital. Three other passengers who are critically injured, including a little boy and girl, have been taken to Guwahati for medical treatment.
According to reports, the bolero camper was speeding and the driver is alleged to have driven under the influence of alcohol leading to this terrible tragedy.
