Agatha files nomination for Tura Lok Sabha seat with family by her side

Tura, March 26: Optimistic of support from the people of Garo Hills and encouraged by the large turnout of supporters, sitting Tura Lok Sabha MP Agatha K Sangma filed her nomination papers seeking entry to Parliament for a record 4th term on Tuesday.

The former union minister of state for rural development during the era of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Agatha submitted her nomination papers for the contest before Returning Officer Jagdish Chelani in Tura.

In true spirit of her late father P A Sangma, who made it a point to have his wife and children by his side during the filing of his nomination papers for successive parliamentary elections, Agatha Sangma kept the family tradition alive as her mother Soradini K Sangma, spouse Patrick Marak and brothers James Pangsang K Sangma and Conrad K Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, accompanied her to the 4th nomination of her political career.

Prior to her nomination, she also paid a visit to the grave of her late father at the Roman Catholic Cemetery to offer prayers.

“This is an election where I am optimistic the development works carried out by our government will speak for us. Our government in the state and alliance at the centre have ensured developmental works have reached all the corners of our state. I wish to continue with the good work taking place, ” said Agatha K Sangma.

In a powerful show of political strength for the NPP, the bigwigs of the party led by the chief minister descended on Tura to send a strong message to its rivals in the opposition camp that they meant business when it came to winning.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong also accompanied Agatha to the filing of nomination along with Cabinet ministers Marcuise Marak and A T Mondol, Deputy Speaker Timothy D Shira from Resubelpara, and NPP legislators Sengchim N Sangma (Chokpot), Marthon Sangma (Mendipathar), Ponseng Marak (Bajengdoba), Rupert Momin (Kharkutta), Arbinstone Sangma (Selsella) among others.
