Guwahati, Aug 27: The Assam Cabinet on Wednesday streamlined procedures for inter-religious transfer of immovable property and acquisition of land by NGOs from outside the state, in a move aimed at curbing fraud and safeguarding social harmony.
Under the new rules, all applications for such land transfers will be scrutinised by the Revenue Department and the Special Branch of Assam Police, assessing for coercion, illegality, source of funds, social impact, and national security implications. The final decision will rest with the concerned District Commissioner. Local NGOs will be exempt from this process.
The Cabinet approved private sector projects worth nearly ₹969 crore, expected to create over 2,700 jobs:
* Premier Cryogenics Ltd: ₹125 crore for a high-purity semiconductor gas plant at Jagiroad, employing 200.
* Jonali Construction Pvt Ltd: ₹182.17 crore for the Marriott Resort & Spa project, generating 204 jobs.
* Ambuja Neotia Healthcare Venture Ltd: ₹302.65 crore for a hospital project.
* Ambuja Neotia Hotel Ventures Ltd: ₹360 crore for a hotel project.
The Cabinet also approved shutting down the Assam Plantation Crops Development Corporation Ltd., sanctioning ₹6 crore for voluntary retirement benefits, one-time settlement, and closure costs.
As part of cultural encouragement, ₹25,000 grants will be given to each participant of the Jhumur Binandini programme scheduled for October 12.
Chief Minister Sarma announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam for the birth centenary celebrations of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika has been rescheduled to September 13–14. State-level celebrations will proceed on September 8, with the Prime Minister joining later.
