The Congress has also demanded resignation of State Inland Water Transport Minister, Chandra Mohan Patowary.

“The BJP-led state government has done enough of Bhumi Pujans and Namani Brahmaputras. It’s time for the party and the government to do some real work,” Bhupen Borah told media persons in Guwahati.

Assam Power Minister faces dissent of people at Majuli

Assam Power Minister Bimal Bora on Thursday faced the wrath of public at Majuli while visiting the river island to take stock of the boat capsizing incident in the Brahmaputra near Nimatighat in Jorhat district.

The agitated local people of Majuli tried to block the Minister’s vehicle and raised slogans against the minister like ‘Bimal Bora Go Back’.

The people of Majuli held the Assam government responsible for the tragic boat tragedy on Wednesday in which one person has died and several others injured.

“The Assam government is responsible for the incident because after many years, the work of the Majuli bridge has not started yet. Sarbananda Sonowal is the MLA from Majuli and in last five years, he has done nothing for Majuli. We want bridge over Majuli to end such tragedy,” said a woman protester.

Construction of Majuli Bridge to start in November

Assam Chief Minister Himsnta Biswa Sarma also visited Nimatighat on Thursday to take stock of the situation and announced that single-engine ferries have been suspended from today itself.

He said that construction of Majuli Bridge will be started from November and will be completed in 4 years.
