Assam : Dibrugarh University Vice Chancellor suspended by Assam Governor

Guwahati, Feb 11: The Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University Prof. Ranjit Tamuli suspended on Thursday by Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi after the fact-finding committee found the Vice-chancellor involved in financial anomalies of fund of Dibrugarh University.

Prof RNS Yadav will take the charge of Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University temporarily.

The Governor of Assam in his capacity as The Chancellor of the Dibrugarh University, on consideration of facts and materials available on record, including report submitted by the Fact-Finding Committee, decided to appoint a high-level enquiry committee to go into details of the functioning of the Dibrugarh University over the last five years which shall focus on.

Financial transaction and financial administration, Corruptions, Discipline, Misuse of Funds, Misuse of powers among other aspects of University Governance.

In view of the above, the Governor of Assam in the capacity as Chancellor of the Dibrugarh University has placed Prof. Ranjit Tamuli, Vice-Chancellor, Dibrugarh University under suspension, with immediate effect, until further orders, in order to ensure that witnesses are not influenced/coerced in any way and material records of the University are not tampered with in any manner whatsoever and in order to ensure a fair enquiry.

The Governor of Assam cum Chancellor of Dibrugarh University has instructed to handover the charge of the Vice-Chancellor, Dibrugarh University, temporarily, to Prof. R. N. S. Yadav, Department of Life Sciences, Dibrugarh University cum Dean, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Dibrugarh University, until further orders, so that the normal functions of the University are not hampered whatsoever and the interest of students and all stakeholders are upheld.

Dibrugarh University register Hari Chandra Mahanta and deputy register (finance & accounts) Diganta Bora was suspended for their alleged involvement in the financial anomalies in the university recently.

The four-member fact finding team was headed under the chairmanship of Preetom Saikia, commissioner and Secretary, Government of Assam Higher secondary. The other members who will assist Saikia are Moloy Bora, Commissioner, upper Assam, Rajiv Sensua, Scientific officer and Israphil Musahari, scientific officer, question documents division, Directorate of Forensic Science, Assam.
