Guwahati, Jan 13: The Special Task Force (STF) intercepted two vehicles at Amingaon and seized a massive consignment of heroin worth Rs 11 crore.

Acting on specific input that a huge consignment was being transported from a neighbouring state, the STF team led by Additional SP Kalyan Kumar Pathak laid a trap and intercepted a Thar (AS 23 AD 6626) and a Maruti Jimny (AS 01 GN 7404).

On thorough search, the team recovered 97 soap boxes containing heroin concealed in secret compartments of the vehicles—40 packets from the Thar and 57 from the Jimny.

The contraband, weighing 1 kg 358 gms without the soap box covers, was meticulously packed to evade detection.

The drivers of the vehicles, identified as Anowar Hussain Kaji (33), son of Junab Kaji of Kaji Para, Pal Haji under Barpeta PS, and Aminul Sikdar (33), son of Md Sahed Sikdar of Haripur Chowkpara under Tarabari PS, both hailing from Barpeta district, were apprehended on the spot.

Officials stated that necessary legal measures have been initiated against the duo.

The STF has intensified its crackdown on narcotics trafficking routes through Assam, with this operation marking one of the biggest seizures in recent months.
