Guwahati, Jan 13: Guwahati is set to script history today as the original FIFA World Cup Trophy makes its first-ever visit to Northeast India, turning the spotlight firmly on Assam. The iconic trophy will be showcased at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara, transforming the city into a hub of global football fever and live music celebrations.
Announcing the landmark moment, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called it another major leap in the state’s evolving concert and sports economy. Taking to X, he urged residents to soak in the moment.
“Get ready to witness the original FIFA World Cup Trophy in Guwahati… along with electrifying performances at the Coke Studio Bharat concert. Another day, another win for our concert and sports economy plans,” he posted.

The arrival of the world’s most coveted football trophy places Guwahati alongside major global cities that host elite sporting and cultural events. Adding to the grandeur, the trophy will be unveiled in the presence of Brazilian football legend Gilberto Aparecido da Silva, heightening the excitement around the historic occasion.

Anticipating massive crowds, the Guwahati Traffic Police have announced comprehensive traffic restrictions around the stadium area from 11 am to midnight. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), the measures aim to ensure pedestrian safety—including children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities—while allowing for the smooth passage of emergency vehicles.
Guwahati is one of 75 stops across 30 FIFA member nations on the trophy’s 150-day global tour. Its stop in Assam is being seen as a strong signal of the region’s growing prominence on the international sporting and cultural map.
