Assam: Himanta’s affidavit shows modest assets; wife’s wealth surges

Guwahati, Mar 21: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s latest affidavit reflects relatively modest personal assets, with no immovable property in his name, even as the assets and liabilities of his wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, have risen sharply over the past five years.

The 57-year-old chief minister, in his affidavit filed for nomination as a BJP candidate from the Jalukbari constituency on Friday, stated that he owns only movable assets, valued at Rs 2.36 crore in 2026, up from Rs 1.72 crore in 2021.

In contrast, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma has declared Rs 13.54 crore in movable assets and Rs 19.25 crore in immovable assets, including both self-acquired and inherited properties, valued at the current market price.

Under liabilities, Sarma has declared Rs 95 lakh, entirely in bank and institutional loans, while his wife’s liabilities stand at Rs 15.91 crore, also in loans.

Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, Managing Director of the media company Pride East Entertainment, has seen her total assets rise to Rs 32.79 crore in 2026 from Rs 16.19 crore five years ago.
The chief minister has Rs 2.28 lakh in cash and four bank deposits totalling Rs 68,01,943, while his wife holds Rs 3.16 lakh in cash and four bank deposits amounting to Rs 74,85,248.

Sarma has no investments in bonds, debentures, shares or mutual funds, whereas his wife has investments worth Rs 5.10 crore in these categories.
