Boko, Sept 28: Various organizations in Boko have jointly appealed to Durga Puja committees across the Greater Boko region to pay tribute to the late singer Zubeen Garg during this year’s celebrations.
The appeal was made at a joint press conference organized by the South-West Kamrup Students’ Union (AASU), Boko Regional Rabha Students’ Union (ARSU), Bogai Cultural and Sports Orientation, Boko Regional Rongali Bihu Convention, and Boko Sports Association.
The groups emphasized that Zubeen Garg, who passed away recently, had immensely enriched Assamese culture and identity, and deserves to be remembered with dignity.
They urged every Puja committee to light lamps before Zubeen Garg’s portrait and offer floral tributes at each Puja venue. Additionally, they requested that loud sound systems and cultural programmes be suspended during the celebrations, and advised that idol immersions be carried out with only a limited number of devotees to maintain solemnity.
According to the organizations, these measures would ensure that the Durga Puja festivities in Boko region uphold their cultural sanctity while paying heartfelt homage to Zubeen Garg.
