Guwahati, Nov 19: In a tragic incident, a retired Army man was trampled to death by a herd of wild elephant in Assam’s Goalpara district on Saturday.
The deceased person has been identified as Nareshwar Rabha.
According to reports, Rabha was traversing the area on his bicycle when he encountered the herd of elephants.
Rabha’s demise marks yet another loss of life in the escalating man-elephant conflict plaguing Assam. Recent days have witnessed a surge in such incidents, with several individuals losing their lives to elephant attacks.
The Assam Forest department is urgently reviewing the situation and devising strategies to mitigate such incidents.
The man-elephant conflict has been rising in Assam due to shrinking of forest covers and elephant coming out of the forest in search of food, resulting in such conflicts.
