Shillong, Aug 18: The Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA), in collaboration with Anastha Fitness Centre, organized an enlightening interaction session on Friday with two accomplished Australian athletes, Robert Kabbas and Ian Campbell.
Robert Kabbas, a distinguished Olympic silver medallist and two-time Commonwealth gold medallist in weightlifting, shared his wealth of experience with the young athletes gathered in Shillong. Kabbas emphasized the importance of maintaining peak physical fitness in the demanding discipline of weightlifting. He also shed light on the moral strength required to excel at the highest levels of competition.
Ian Campbell, a track and field athlete (long jumper) and another accomplished Olympian from Australia, brought his expertise to the event. Campbell’s presence provided a unique opportunity for attendees to gain insights into the world of athletics. His perspective on training, discipline, and dedication resonated deeply with the aspiring athletes present in the program.
During the engaging interaction, both Kabbas and Campbell expressed their unwavering commitment to continue supporting emerging talent. They assured young athletes of their complete cooperation in nurturing their skills and helping them realize their full potential.
John F Kharshiing, the working president of the MSOA, stated that the main objective of such a healthy interaction program was to showcase a shared vision of empowering the next generation of athletes. The Association aims to bring in more programs like this, serving as a beacon of hope for aspiring weightlifters and athletes in Shillong whose desire is to compete in larger competitions like the Olympics.
