Awareness program on Road Safety organized at Baghmara

Baghmara, Feb 11: As part of the observation of Road Safety Week the District Administration in collaboration with the District Transport Office South Garo Hills District organized an awareness program on road Safety themed ” Safak Suraksha – Jeevan Raksha” means ” Road Safety  – Safety to Life” today here at Parking Lot near Baghmara Municipal Board Office.
The Deputy Commissioner in-charge of South Garo Hills District M.T.Sangma MCS while informing the public on the safety measures calls upon the people gathered to save themselves and other’s as well from unexpected cases of accidents by following certain safety rules like never drive while drinking, always wear a seat belt while driving, don’t drive too close to another vehicle, never use mobile phones while driving saying that if the driver gets distracted it may cause unintended accidents, always follow the traffic rules and signals that is being given for the road Safety. And one should not drive too fast as overspending may cause a life, and if a driver is too tired he shouldn’t drive but take rest in order to avoid accidents. She added.
MVI Inspector Tenny Sangma also spelled out certain MV Act stating that the penalty for not obeying the road Safety rules are quite heavy under the 2019 Regulation. If a person is found driving without a licence then he will be fined Rs.5000 under section 181 and for 2nd offence Rs, 10,000/- will be charged. For excessive speed Rs 2000 and for ignoring the traffic signal Rs.5000 or more will be fine. For using mobile phones when driving Rs.5000 and for drink and drive case Rs.10000 to Rs 15000 will be fine. A person without Helmet of Rs 5000 will be fine. Therefore he urged the people to be cautious while driving and to remember these rules while driving to avoid huge penalties.
He also asked the people to ensure their vehicle insurance as it will also attract a Rs 2000 fine and he also informed that if minors are allowed to drive as this will also attract the penalty of Rs 25000 or more.
Subir Sangma CI Baghmara also informed the gathering on basic traffic signage. Mandatory, cautionary, informatory along with basic traffic rules like wearing of a seat belt, helmet, etc.
